11/02/2021 » Ashling announce plans for OpenHW CORE-V Development Kit

Silicon Valley, November 2nd, 2021. Ashling announced plans for the OpenHW CORE-V Development Kit.

The OpenHW CORE-V group are currently developing a range of open-source, RISC-V ISA based cores known as CORE-V. As an OpenHW member, Ashling is actively involved in defining and implementing a CORE-V Development Kit which includes a reference board built around a CORE-V MCU and an SDK containing everything needed to develop software for the board.

One cool feature of the CORE-V MCU is that it has on-board FPGA fabric allowing developers to accelerate or turbo-charge applications by implementing key functionality in “hardware.” The SDK will provide open-source Symbiflow tools to support this. This creates a safe sandbox for software developers to experiment with Verilog and maximize performance.

Our overriding goal is to make the Kit “Plug & Play” (or “out-of-the-box” for those who remember shrink-wrapped software). The aim is to have users up and running in minutes—whether downloading and running a simple blinky example or building a CORE-V C Edge AI application utilizing an on-board FPGA-based neural network accelerator.
